LADIES SOCKS

"While I’m happy about making vintage sock bundles available, it saddens me to tell you that I may have designed my last pair of men’s and ladies' socks. Several things are contributing to this decision. The only person who knows how to operate the special knitting machine that can make my socks (and keep it running!) came out of retirement in 2014 just to continue to produce them. But, at 85, he may really retire. All my beautiful yarn, leftover from other projects, has finally run out and the wonderful high-quality Italian yarn to replace it has become very expensive. If I am able to continue, I would have to raise the price of the new socks, probably to $35."

For the first time ever, I’ve made ladies socks!  They are made in Japan, at the same factory as our men’s socks. When I closed my men’s fashion business, I saved all my precious yarns and am using them now in these special socks, so you can feel good about buying a product using re-purposed materials. The special colorful “tying” yarn is comprised of eight colors knotted together using a machine called the “Arranged Winder”.

The foot is standard women’s size and the leg is shorter than the mens. They look great with casual shoes and cropped pants or leggings.
Our socks have been made in Japan for over 30 years. For a while, I was afraid I would no longer be able to produce socks. Between the age of the special machines my socks required and difficulty to keep them going, I was afraid we'd seen the end! Just recently, another factory in Japan contacted me to say they missed making our special socks and they did have a few of the double knit machines still working well. Double knit means more design variety and greater strength and comfort on the foot. Very few of these machines exist in the world. Double knitting uses two cylinders which means longer production time and requires skilled engineers.
