Jhane's Take on the Journal Notebooks
These are a very straightforward printed paper product, which means the printing is the most precise of anything I sell. There’s no material translation, no distortion — what you design is exactly what you get.
Now, do people still use notebooks to write in? I genuinely don’t know. Some people clearly do. I’m not one of them — at least not in the traditional sense.
The real reason I included notebooks at all is a mix of curiosity and experience. I’ve designed journal notebooks for MoMA in the past, so I was genuinely interested in seeing how these would stack up, quality-wise. They’re different — but they’re almost as nice, which I consider a meaningful compliment.
I also knew they would print beautifully, and selfishly, I wanted to see my work sitting on my shelf. In that respect, they absolutely deliver.
What I really like about these notebooks is the construction. The pages are perforated, so you can tear them out cleanly. That gives you the function of a spiral notebook, without the visual clutter. At the same time, the book has a proper bound spine (casewrap binding), so it still feels like a real book.
The matte hardcover has a quiet, satisfying feel, and the size is 5.75” × 8”. Inside there are 150 lined pages (75 sheets).
So whether someone uses these for writing, lists, or simply likes having them around, they’re well-made, honest objects — and they passed a test I didn’t take lightly.
