Jhane's Take on the Tea Towels

These are 100% cotton tea towels with an all-over print, and overall, they’ve held up well in real use.

The printing is great — clear, consistent, and exactly what I hoped for on a flat textile surface. The sewing is fine, though if I were being picky (and I am), I would use more stitches per inch. That said, they’ve worn well over time, which ultimately matters more than the spec.

The fabric is a cotton twill, and the towels measure 18” × 30”, which I find to be a good, usable size in the kitchen.

Like many printed cotton towels, they need to be washed several times before they become properly absorbent. Once they get past that stage, they do their job well. They also launder easily and don’t require ironing, which keeps them in regular rotation rather than relegated to a drawer.

They’re printed on one side only, so the reverse is an off-white cotton. Because of that, I tri-fold mine when hanging them over the oven door handle so the unprinted side doesn’t show. It’s a small adjustment, but it works.

We use these in a few ways: lining a tray for serving, and mostly for hand drying while cooking. They’re used constantly, which is usually the best measure of whether something earns its place.

They’re not perfect, but they’re honest, useful, and well printed — and once they’re broken in, they quietly do what they’re supposed to do.
