Jhane's Take on the Can Holders

(which I mostly use as can holders, not can coolers)

It still makes me smile that these are called can holders instead of can coolers, because that’s exactly how I use them.

They’re made by the same printer as the tumblers and travel mugs, so all the printing comments apply: clean, precise, and well executed. The body is stainless steel, and the black screw-on top has a rubber gasket that fits securely.

They’re designed to fit 12 oz short cans. To use them as intended, you unscrew the black top, drop in the can, then screw the ring back on to lock it in place. That part actually works very well.

Here’s where I diverge from the plan: almost all of my drinks come in tall, slim cans. With those, I don’t need to unscrew anything. I just pop the can straight in — enough of it sticks up that I drink from the actual can, not the holder. In theory, that defeats the purpose. In practice, it turns the can holder into something I didn’t know I needed: a can stabilizer.

My biggest issue is drinking at my computer. Since I started using these, I haven’t knocked over a drink once. That alone makes them worth keeping around for me.

Do they keep drinks cold? I think yes — colder than without one, though I’m not treating this like a laboratory test. Katsu uses them in the summer for his Athletic beer, which is probably a more traditional use case.

And one more unexpected use: I have two of them on my desk holding pencils and markers in my office. They’re heavy enough not to tip and just the right size — which feels very on brand for something called a “holder.”

So no, this isn’t a universal solution for every can shape. But for how I actually live and work, they’ve earned their spot.
